Best Time to Take Multivitamins

Since I started working at night, taking multivitamin supplements daily sounds like a good idea. With all the stress from work and lack of needed rest, I could probably make use of some immune system boost.

General rule of the thumb is to take multivitamins right after a meal for its maximum absorption. Since the B-vitamins are somewhat activating, I take my multivitamin at night.

Fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, and K should to be taken with a meal that contains some fat. Multivitamin, B-complex, C, and E, can be taken all together after the biggest meal of the day.

Don’t take fiber supplements together with your multivitamin. Fibers can bind with fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, which make them unavailable for the body.

Minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc need an acid-rich environment in the stomach so it could be best absorbed by the body. Calcium and magnesium serve as natural muscle relaxants and can be taken in the evening to ensure a good night’s sleep. However, for night owls like me, it’s best taken in the morning before going to bed.

So, when is the best time to take multivitamins? The best time is when it is most convenient for you. Choose the same time every day, whether morning or evening, so it becomes a habit.
